Florida State Seminoles vs Gonzaga Bulldogs form & stats
Florida State Seminoles take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Thursday March 28 at Honda Center, Anaheim, CA. The winner will progress to the Elite 8 of the National Tournament.
In the Sweet 16 in the West Region, top-seed Gonzaga has been impressive in their two games in the Big Dance and Florida State is coming off a blowout win in their last game.
It is déjà vu all over again, as these teams met last season in the Sweet 16, also in the West Region no less, where FSU pulled off the big upset laying a 75-60 beat down on Gonzaga.
The Seminoles beat UVM in the first round of the Big Dance and then took out tournament darling Murray State, led by star and likely lottery pick in the next draft Ja Morant, in the last game.
FSU is hot, as they have won seven of their last eight games with their only loss in that span coming against Duke in the ACC title game. They have been a balanced team on both sides of the floor on the season and in their win over Murray State in their last game they lit up the scoreboard putting up 90 points.
Gonzaga may be out for a little payback in this game after losing to FSU in last seasons’ Sweet 16. This is the Zags 5th straight trip to the Sweet 16 and the 2017 season was the only one they advanced to the Final Four.
The Bulldogs are the highest scoring team in the nation and they have won both of their Big Dance games by at least 12 points. the team’s head coach in Mark Few knows all too well about FSU losing badly to them in last season’s NCAA Tournament and in a recent interview called them “vastly under-seeded.”
Not only did Florida State take out Gonzaga in last season’s Big Dance, but they were 6-4 facing top 25 teams this season including beating 2nd ranked Virginia in the semifinals of the ACC tournament.
The Seminoles were not very impressive in their opening win over Vermont, only shooting 38.2% from the floor, but were in their 90-62 win over Murray State. In that game, they outscore the Racers 50-34 in the first half and shot a solid 50.7% from the floor playing great defense holding Murray State to only 50.7% shooting.
Florida State only has two players averaging in double figures on the season in Mfiondu Kabengele (13.4 ppg) and Terance Mann (11.6 ppg), but both have come up big in the Big Dance, in the two games Kabengele has totaled 43 points and Mann has totaled 37 points with eight boards in each game where in each one he shot over 63% from the floor.
Gonzaga throttled Fairleigh Dickinson in their first game in the tournament and in the last game beat Baylor 83-71. In that game, they outscored the Bears by 16 points in the first half and shot a solid 54.4% from the floor while holding Baylor to 41.7% shooting.
The Zags are deep and on the season Rui Hachimura led them in scoring (20.1 ppg) and he only had six points in the win over Baylor. Brandon Clarke is the 2nd leading scorer and leading rebounder and after only going for 12 points in the first game he blew up for 36 points in the last game.
Last season in the loss to FSU in the Sweet 16 Gonzaga only shot 33.9% from the floor.

Florida State vs Gonzaga Sweet 16 Pick & Betting Tip
FSU has a scrappy defensive team and turnovers have helped them in their first two games. They really did in the first game where they shot the ball poorly and it will be big in this game.
While Gonzaga may get the win and their revenge against FSU with a win the Seminoles will cover the spread getting seven points in what will be a close game.
