Mississippi Rebels Form
The Ole Miss Rebels are coming off an impressive 31-6 conference win over Vanderbilt as a seven-point chalk in a game where they ran for more than 400 yards. That was the first time they have done so against an SEC foe since 1979.
Ole Miss has battled injuries at the QB position this season. It is expected to start freshman quarterback John Rhys Plumlee on Saturday, although Matt Corral, who got the start in the first four games of the season, is likely to be available.
Corral left the team’s loss to Cal back on Sept. 21 with bruised ribs and in his place the mobile Plumlee has played very well, totalling 649 all-purpose yards and four total touchdowns.
Despite ranking No. 97 nationally in total yards per game and No. 82 nationally in points per game. The Rebels have been able to run the ball effectively, averaging 234.5 yards per game, which is 16th best in the country.
Defensively, the Rebels have been stout against the run, ranking No. 20 nationally, allowing just 99.7 yards per game. But, has struggled against the pass, giving up 295.7 yards through the air per game, which ranks them No. 119.
Missouri Tigers Form
After getting stunned by Wyoming, 37-31, in the season opener as a 15-point road favorite, the Tigers have bounced back to win four games in a row.
They have done so in impressive fashion outscoring opponents 164-31 and, more importantly, covering the spread in all four of those games, while averaging 41 points per game.
As good as the offense has been for Missouri, the Tiger “D” has been even better, ranking third in the country overall while allowing just 231 total yards per game.
The rush defense has been like a brick wall, giving up just 37 rushing yards per game during the last four games.
But, despite the winning streak, it’s not all good news coming out of Missouri this week. Clemson transfer and starting QB Kelly Bryant got dinged up in last week’s win over Troy and will play with a leg brace against Mississippi.
Also, the offensive line is battling some injuries and has had to do some major shuffling all season.
Mississippi vs Missouri Head-to-Head
The last time Missouri lost to Mississippi was way back in 1974. Since then, the Tigers have won five meetings in a row and lead the all-time College Football series 6-1.
Since Missouri jumped from the Big 12 to the SEC, the teams have only met once and that was in 2013 when the Tigers beat the Rebels, 24-10, in Oxford in 2013.
Mississippi vs Missouri Picks
Yes, we realize Bryant is banged up, but this is simply an awful match-up for Ole Miss. The Rebels strength is running the ball, but Missouri most certainly knows that and will be putting as many men in the box as possible while daring Mississippi’s freshman QB to throw the ball.
Defensively, the Rebels have had their share of issues defending the pass and that plays into the hands of the Missouri offense that likes to throw it around the yard and play fast.
Mississippi is jus 3-10 against the spread in its last 13 games as an underdog and has covered only three of its last 10 road games.
The environment will be too much for a freshman QB to handle, especially if the Rebels fall behind early and are forced to throw the ball.
