Fresh off a comeback win on the road over Colorado, the USC Trojans returns home to the LA Coliseum for a critical Pac-12 showdown with No. 7 Oregon.
Heisman Trophy candidate QB Justin Herbert will also start, which always adds to the excitement.
Kickoff will be at 8 P.M. EST on Saturday, Nov. 2. The current betting odds have Oregon as a 4.5-point favorite with an over/under of 62.5.
Oregon Ducks Form
Ever since coughing up a fourth quarter lead and losing to Auburn, 27-21, the Ducks have quietly gone about their business, winning seven games in a row.
The hot streak not only puts Oregon in position to win the Pac 12, but the team is very much alive for an NCAA playoff berth and shot at a national title.
The first five wins of the current streak came against inferior competition and the Ducks outscored those opponents 95-25 while going 3-2 against the spread.
The last two games, however, have been barnburners, with Oregon beating Washington, 35-31, on the road as a 2.5-point favorite.
Last week it took down visiting Washington State, 37-35, as a 14-point home chalk.
Herbert has been the focal point of the offense, but last week RB CJ Verdell ran for 257 yards for a surging Ducks rushing attack. It’s an attack that has topped 250 rushing yards in two of its last three games.
Oregon ranks third in the Pac 12 in passing, third in rushing and second in points per game.
After allowing just 8.6 points per game in the first six games of the season, the Ducks defense has given up a total of 72 points in the last two games.
Overall, the Ducks are No. 20 in the nation in total defense and allow 14.8 points per game. Their run defense allows 3.2 yards per carry and 101.3 yards per game on the ground.
Southern Cal Trojans Form
With a two-game winning streak and destiny in their own hands regarding a trip to the Pac 12 Championship Game, the USC Trojans will be playing one of their biggest home games in recent memory on Saturday.
The Trojans are tied with Utah atop the Pac 12 South standings at 4-1, but since they upset the Utes at home earlier this season they will go to the conference title game if they can win out.
Freshman QB Kedon Slovis started the season second on the depth chart but due to injuries he’s taken over the starting job. He’s connecting on 72% of his passes with eight touchdowns and a pick in his last three games.
Slovis has one of the best wide receiver corps in the country at his disposal.
USC is battling a number of injuries on defense and hopes to get a few key players back this week. The team is ranked 98th in the country in total defense, allowing 429.9 yards per game.
That includes 190 rushing yards per game, which ranks 92nd in the nation.
Oregon vs Southern Cal Head-to-Head
USC leads the all time series 38-20-2. This will be the first meeting between the Ducks and Trojans since 2016 when USC downed Oregon, 45-20, at the L.A. Coliseum.
Oregon vs Southern Cal College Football Predictions
With apologies to Utah and Notre Dame, Oregon is the most talented and balanced team that USC has faced this season and we think the 4.5 spread is a little cheap.
The Trojans have given up yards in chunks on the ground this season and the Ducks have a top-notch offensive line and three quality running backs.
Travis Dye, Cyrus Habibi-Likoi, and C.J. Verdell can do damage, not to mention, perhaps the best QB in the nation.
USC doesn’t lose many games at home (14-3 straight up the last three seasons) and already shocked Utah on this field earlier this year, but Oregon will have too much firepower.
