Temple Owls Form

The bye week could not have come at a better time for the Owls last weekend. The team was mired in a two-game losing streak after dropping a pair of lopsided affairs to nationally ranked SMU (45-21) and Central Florida (63-21).

With a 5-3 overall record and a 2-2 mark in the American Athletic Conference, Temple will likely have to run the table in its final four games in order to win the AAC. But, even that might not be good enough.

Temple has certainly played a rigid schedule going 2-1 against Top 25 opponents with wins over then-No. 21 Maryland and then-No. 23 Memphis.

The entire season has been all about the defense. When the Owls hold an opponent to 28 points or fewer they are 5-0, but in the three losses the team has given up an average of 48.6 points per game.

On offense, the passing game has been a strength for Temple as they rank fifth in AAC in passing with 263.8 yards per game.

The lack of a running game has really hurt the Owls in their three losses. In all three of those games the team was held to less than 70 yards on the ground.

South Florida Bulls Form

With starting QB Blake Barnett out for the season, the Bulls are relying on back-ups Jordan McCloud and wildcat option specialist Jah’Quez Evans to carry the load.

The two QBs responded big time in the team’s 45-20 win over East Carolina as a 1-point favorite. The Bulls rolled up a season-high 525 total yards and 347 rushing yards against the Pirates.

Even still, the Bulls are ranked just ninth in the AAC in scoring with 26.1 points per game. They have the No. 8 ranked rushing offense and 11th ranked passing offense.

Defensively, opponents have had the most success running on South Florida to the tune of 199.1 yards per game. However, the Bulls have been stingy against the pass and have the No. 1 ranked passing defense in the AAC, allowing just 185.9 yards per game via the air.

USF has been aided this season by a huge edge in the turnover battle. The Bulls rank second nationally in turnovers gained with 20 for the season and their +7 turnover margin ranks seventh in the country.

Temple vs South Florida Head-to-Head

The AAC rivals have split the last two meetings.

Last year in Philadelphia, the Owls beat the Bulls, 27-17, but failed to cover as the 14-point chalk.

In 2017, South Florida put a beating on Temple, 43-17, as a 17-point favorite.

Temple vs South Florida College Football Predictions

With an unsettled QB situation and a near-zero home field advantage for South Florida, we’re going to go ahead and lay the short number on the road with the Owls.

South Florida has covered just five of its last 16 games on this field and is also just 8-12 against the spread in its last 20 AAC games.

Temple is 5-2 ATS as a road favorite, including 4-0 when the number is less than a TD, and the Owls have been dangerous this season when they can get the running game going.

They should be able to do just that tonight against the awful USF rush defense.

Temple vs South Florida College Football Predictions: Temple -2.5 @
