Wake Forest Demon Deacons Form

Wake Forest enters this game winners of two straight and with a 7-1 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the ACC, with the lone loss coming to Louisville.

The story of the season for the Demon Deacons, who are ranked No. 21 in the AP Poll, has been the offense, led by QB Jamie Newman. He has accounted for five touchdowns against NC State (three passing, two rushing) last week and became the third FBS QB to rush for multiple TDs.

He also threw a TD pass in a single quarter of a game this year, joining Ohio State’s Justin Fields and Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts.

Newman also tied the school record by throwing a touchdown pass in 11 consecutive games. That came for a Wake Forest attack that ranks second in the conference in scoring with 38 points per game, behind Clemson (47 points per game).

Other than giving up a whopping 62 points in the lone loss of the season to Louisville, Wake Forest has played well on defense. They have held every other opponent to 24 points or less.

The team is 8th in the ACC in total defense, allowing 400 yards per game, and 5th in scoring defense (24.6 points per game).

Virginia Tech Hokies Form

It was a sluggish start to the season for the Hokies, we began 2-2 straight up and 0-4 against the spread. But, since then the team has improved on both sides of the ball, going 3-1 straight up and perfect at the betting window.

During the current four-game upswing, Tech has averaged 34.7 points per game on offense. They nearly pulled off the upset at Notre Dame last week, losing 21-20 as a 17.5-point road underdog.

The offense ranks seventh in the ACC in both points per game (27) and rushing yards per game (165).

The team has needed to offense to pick up the pace since the normally defensively stout Hokies have struggled on that side of the ball.

The passing defense has been especially bad, ranking 10th out of 12 teams in the conference while allowing 261.5 yards per game via the air.

Wake Forest vs Virginia Tech Head-to-Head

Virginia Tech leads the all-time series over Wake Forest, winning 23 games and losing 12 with one tie.

The teams have not met since way back in 2014. It was a dandy as Wake Forest prevailed in a defensive-dominated, 6-3, decision that took two overtimes to complete.

Wake Forest vs Virginia Tech College Football Predictions

The Demon Deacons are enjoying one of the better seasons in school history, but this is not a team that’s used to having such success, especially in recent years.

And with a game that could be one of the biggest in program history on deck at Clemson, we can’t help but think they’ll be peaking ahead to next week.

If that’s the case, the Hokies will pounce on them. Virginia Tech seems to have its swagger back after a slow start to the season. We also liked the fight we saw from them last week in South Bend.

The Hokies are historically a great underdog. They are already 3-0 in that role this season and since 1990 they are 47-37 when catching points. That includes a profitable 17-7 ATS mark as a home dog.
