Houston Astros Form & Team News

It has been a comfortable start to the ALDS for the Astros. They scored a convincing 6-2 win on Friday before winning 3-1 to take a 2-0 series lead.

In Game 1 it was starting pitcher Garrit Cole who ripped through the Rays’ bats. Cole fanned 15 and that helped pave the way for the Astros to win.

Starting for the Astros in Game 3 will be the experience Zack Greinke. The 35-year-old has been a great player for the Astros this season.

Greinke is 18-5 on the season with an ERA of 2.93. There’s little doubt that his experience will be vital for Houston this Monday.

Houston just about matches up better in every statistic over the Rays. They have the superior average, runs, hits and home runs.

It’s tough to beat any team when the stats are going against you. The only notable statistic going against the Astros is the team ERA of 3.66.

That’s only 0.01 lower than the Rays, so we’re splitting hairs with that one.

With an away record of 47-34, the Houston Astros shouldn’t hold many fears playing in Tampa. However, it would be foolish to deny that Houston are playing on the road in enemy territory.

Look for the Astros’ bats to pick up some slack on Monday. They have combined for nine runs to date, but there’s even more runs in those powerful bats.

Tampa Bay Rays Form & Team News

The Rays made a statement by getting past the Oakland A’s in the Wildcard game. However, they have come crashing back down to earth.

Starting pitching has been solid from the Rays, especially giving up only three runs last Saturday. They give the ball to Charlie Morton on Monday and that boosts their chances.

Morton is an experienced customer who got the Wildcard win last week. He also boasts a dynamic pitching arsenal which could rock the Astros’ big bats.

He’s an 11-year veteran who has some nasty stuff and can blow hitters away. The Rays will need Morton to be at his best if they’re looking to avoid a sweep in the MLB Playoffs.

The worrying sign for the Rays is their offense. It struggled coming into the playoffs and it has scored only 12 runs over their last five games.

That’s simply not good enough to beat a team like the Astros. Tampa Bay will hope their pitching can get the done, because we’re unsure about their offense.

It largely depends on the form of Austin Meadows, who leads the team in all major categories. Meadows leads in home runs, BA and RBI’s.

A full team effort will be required if Tampa want to stay alive in the 2019 MLB season.

Astros vs Rays Free MLB Picks & Predictions

This won’t be an easy game for bettors to predict. However, the advantage in the Astros vs Rays game this Monday has to be the visitors.

Playing away from home is an obvious negative, but they have all the momentum. They also have Greinke on the mound and his experience is valuable.

Houston’s bats are already warmed up and unfortunately for Rays’ fans, theirs are yet to see daylight.

It could be a pitching duel but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Houston being aggressive early.

Look for the Astros to get up early and let their bull pen finish the job.
