Red Sox vs Mariners Betting Preview
Thursday March 28, 7:10pm @ T-Mobile Park Seattle, Washington
The Boston Red Sox open the defense of their World Series title on the road facing a Seattle Mariners team that has already won two games. Boston did not make any big off-season moves, but they did lose setup man Joe Kelly and closer Craig Kimbrel. Still, the team has a great staff and an offense that scored the most runs in the Majors last season led by reigning MVP Mookie Betts.
The Mariners have gotten off to a solid start to the 2019 campaign where they swept a mini two-game series against the Oakland A’s in Japan. Last season the club finished 16 games over. 500, but they missed out on the playoffs, as Oakland and the Houston Astros both made the post-season.
Seattle moved many veterans on the staff as well as Robinson Cano, so the young guys have to step up.
Boston Red Sox Form
The Red Sox won it all last season and they are loaded at the plate and on the mound. Betts batted .346 with 32 HR and 80 RBI in his MVP season, J.D. Martinez had 43 HR and 130 RBI, and Xander Bogaerts had 23 HR and 103 RBI.
From the top to the bottom of the Boston lineup the team can score runs and should be formidable again this season, with MLB Playoffs in sight.
The starting rotation was a good one last season with Rick Porcello and David Price combining for 33 wins and while Ace Chris Sale only had 12 wins he had a legit ERA of 2.11. The team signed Sale to big contract extension in the off-season to lead the staff for the next few years.
The main moves the Red Sox made were minor league deals and a few trades to bolster the bullpen with Kelly and Kimbrel gone. The bullpen is the only real concern for a Boston team that won 108 games last season.
Sale will get the start in this season opener for the Red Sox.
Seattle Mariners Form
The Mariners swept the A’s in the first series of the season and they scored 14 runs in the two wins.
Four players already have a HR, Domingo Santana only had two hits in the 10 at bats in the series, but has a HR, a grand slam, and five RBI, and Tim Beckham went 5 for 7 in the series with two walks.
The Seattle pitching was not great in the series giving up 11 runs. Marco Gonzalez (1-0 4.50 ERA) gets his 2nd start of the season already and he started the first game of the Oakland series going six innings and gave up four runs on seven hits, including giving up two HR in the 9-7 win.
In the last game, the Mariners beat the A’s 5-4 in 12 innings with Santana scoring the game-winning run beating out a double-play attempt with the bases loaded.

Boston Red Sox vs Seattle Mariners Prediction & Tips
The Mariners won the first two games of the season even though their pitching was not great. Gonzalez did not have a great outing, but got the win with solid run support.
Seattle lost his last four home starts and the Red Sox have won Sale’s last five road starts. Both of those trends will continue, as Boston’s offense will pick off right where they left off last season and light up the scoreboard.
The Red Sox will win their season opener and hand the Mariners their first loss of the season.
Pick: Red Sox SU (-215)
