Chicago Cubs Form

The Cubs are slated to pitch Kyle Hendricks. Hendricks is 5 year veteran known for average velocity and throwing a lot of strikes. This year he is 9-9 with a 3.2 ERA over 24 starts.

Hendricks has pitched very well this year and is coming off two very strong outings. In his last 35 innings hes allowed 10 earned runs, 7 coming in one game. So, Hendricks has been very good for a handful of his last outings.

Hendricks gets a lot of fly ball outs, generates some whiffs on his slow curveball and his sinking fast ball. He has been hit hard on the road this season. He has allowed a lot more hits and is less efficient with his command on the road this season.

However, Hendricks has dominated the Mets in his career – he’s 3-0 with a .47 ERA over 19 innings.

The Cubs are coming off being swept over the weekend but rattled off 5 straight wins before that, thus they sit 5-5 over their last 10. The Cubs have been pretty bad on the road this season at 25-39.

A big part of their offense is Anthony Rizzo who is day to day with a back injury. If he suits up he is arguably their best offensive player with his power ability to drive runs in and hit for average.

Kyle Schwarber leads the team with 30 HRs, however Bryant and Baez are right behind with 28 and 26. Nick Castellanos has been a huge addition to the lineup he is a big offensive player and can rack up extra base hits in bunches.

Jason Heyward is also having a nice offensive season putting good at bats together as of late.

The Cubs are very capable of hitting the long ball however, they often bring an all-or-nothing approach to the plate. They score in bunches or not at all. They hit well against righties however Syndergaard has the ability to shut down any offense.

New York Mets Form

The Mets are slated to pitch one of the biggest pitchers in the league in this matchup. Noah Syndergaard, better known as Thor, throws with unfair velocity at 100mph and variety of ways to get batters out.

He has sinker, changeup, hard slider, and a curveball to generate a lot of swing and misses. Thor is 9-6 on the season with a 3.72 ERA in 25 starts. He is itching incredibly well as of late, going 6 IP and 3 ER or less in 8 straight starts.

The Mets are 5-3 over that stretch. Oddly, he hasn’t been putting up huge strikeout numbers but has been very efficient in getting outs consistently over the last month.

He’s been very good vs the Cubs in his career, he is 1-0 with a 2.41 ERA over 19 innings spanning 3 starts in his career.

The Mets are also coming off being swept over the weekend. They won five in a row before that and are 6-4 over the last 10.

The Mets have a power and average threat throughout the lineup Pete Alonso is having one of the best rookie seasons by power numbers of all time. He currently has 41 homers and 100 RBIs and is a threat in the middle of their lineup to leave the yard any at bat.

Michael Conforto has 27 homers and brings power from the left side. Ahmed Rosario has been really hot as of late he is racking up base hits and stealing bases.

Jeff McNiel is back from the IL and will slide back into the leadoff spot most likely. He was one of the league leaders in hits before his injury, he should be fine in his return. JD Davis, and Wilson Ramos also are contributing offensively recently.

Cubs vs. Mets MLB Wednesday Predictions

This will be a tight game and incredibly important to both teams. This series will be a turning point in one team’s playoff pursuit.

The Mets have been playing much better collectively as of late. Syndergaard will bring his big arm and high velocity right to the Cubs lineup.

The Mets hitters and mix of lefties will be able to put the ball in play against Hendricks. The low velocity is a huge boost for the Mets power.

Hendricks hasn’t pitched well on the road and the Cubs struggles on the road is much into consideration.

For these reasons we like the Mets to win.
