Houston Astros Form & News

Newly acquired Zack Greinke is slated to start for the Astros. The Astros really shook up the league with this acquisition. It puts three legit aces at the top of their rotation.

Greinke comes in to the game with an 11-4 record and a 3.08 ERA. He made his team debut in his previous start which resulted in a win however he wasn’t sharp. He gave up 5 runs in 6 innings, which is very abnormal.

Greinke is not a hard thrower, however, he can collect strike outs and keeps hitters off balance consistently. The stud has great command of all his pitches. He throws a 90 mph four seam, changeup, slider, and two different curveballs. One of them being an incredibly slow 69 mph curveball.

He should be able to bounce back and dominate in this start vs a team that strikes out the most in baseball.

The Astros are playing very well right now. They are 9-1 in their last 10 games. Their lineup is incredibly deep and full of all stars. The Astros are top 5 in nearly every hitting stat as a team.

Alex Bregman leads the team with 27 HRs. Michael Brantley leads the team in hits as well as average. Brantley is top 10 in hits league wide.

Yuli Gurriel has been one of the hottest hitters since the all star break, hitting normally in the seventh spot he leads the team in RBIs with 80.

Other key contributors consist of leadoff hitter George Springer and former MVP Jose Altuve. From top to bottom there is no easy outs in the lineup and they should be able to get the best of young pitcher Dylan Cease.

Chicago White Sox Form & News

White Sox are slated to start rookie pitcher Dylan Cease. Cease has made only six starts in his career after debuting in early July. He owns a 2-4 record with an era of 6.00.

Cease is coming off his best start of the year, 2 runs allowed through 5 innings and he earned a win. He struck out 6 and only walked 1 batter in that start.

He has faced some good offenses in his starts, however was roughed up quite a bit and walked guys. Cease has allowed a HR in each of his starts this year. He throws above average speed with his fastball that registers at 96 mph with natural sink.

He throws a slider and curveball that each have large movement, finally he throws a changeup that has cutting action with backspin that generates fly balls.

Cease will need to have his best stuff vs the Astros who strike out the fewest in all of baseball and walk the most.

The White Sox come in playing 5-5 in their last 10. They have a very young team that’s doing as predicted. They are showing upside and the ability to compete. White Sox are missing one of their offensive leaders in Yoan Moncada who is currently on the IL with hamstring issues.

He is their team leader in average and one of their best power threats. Jose Abreu leads the team in HRs and RBIs with 24 and 83 respectively. Leury Garcia is the teams hit leader with 123.

Rookie Eloy Jimenez has struggled to find consistency this year but has great power.

As a team the Sox are one of the least disciplined however have a high BABIP, batting average on balls in play. It will be an uphill battle but if they can exercise some discipline and get the ball in play vs Greinke they will have a shot to do their part as an offense.

MLB 8/12 Predictions: Astros vs. White Sox

Our MLB 8/12 Predictions see the Astros winning this game comfortably.

The Astros will be too much for the young and inconsistent White Sox. Look for Greinke to have a much better start than his last one.

The White Sox chase too many pitches and don’t walk enough. This will play right into Greinke’s hand as he controls the strike zone and can generate whiffs while not overpowering guys.

Astros will have another good offensive day vs young Dylan Cease. For these reasons we like the Astros favorably.
