MLB 8/5 Predictions: Braves vs Twins Preview & Betting Odds

We have MLB 8/5 Predictions this Monday for the Atlanta Braves vs Minnesota Twins, in what should be an important game on the road to the MLB Playoffs.

Monday night 8/5 we have a rare interleague matchup between two of baseball’s best teams this season. The NL East leading Atlanta Braves travel to face the AL Central leading Twins at Target Field. This is the opening matchup of an early week three game series.

The Braves are full of young talent and led by 2018 NL Rookie of the Year Ronald Acuna Jr. The Braves have the second best record in the NL and led their division by 7 games.

Twins are equally impressive under first year manager Rocco Baldelli, with a 68-42 record and a narrow three game lead in their division.

The pitching matchup features two young stars who are amongst some of the best pitchers thus far this season. The Twins ace Jose Berrios will take the mound vs Mike Soroka. Berrios is 10-5 on 22 starts, sporting a 2.80 ERA.

Berrios is coming off back to back wins in his last two outings. Although they were not against quality offenses Berrios was sharp in those outings. Berrios racked up 19 strikeouts and only allowed 2 runs across 14 IP combined.

Mike Soroka was named to his first All-Star team this season. He has a 10-2 record over 19 starts with an incredible 2.37 ERA. Soroka is not a big strike out guy, gets most of his outs on ground balls and does a great job at limiting home runs.

This will be key against the Twins who lead the league as a team in home runs. Soroka did not earn a decision in his last two starts, however the Braves are an incredible 15-4 when Soroka starts this year. Soroka is in good form as of late only allowing 2 runs in his last 11.2 IP.

Atlanta Braves Form & News

The Braves enter the series 6-4 in their last 10. They have a season record of 34-22 on the road. Like the Twins, the Braves are another premier offense in the league.

They have a huge power and speed threat at the top of their lineup in Ronald Acuna Jr., who has 26 home runs and 25 SB this season. Freddie Freeman also has 26 HR’s this season and hitting above .300.

Freeman comes into the game a little cold but that can quickly change as he is very consistent at the plate. Other big bats in the lineup include Ozzie Albies another young superstar who can hit for average and power, former AL MVP Josh Donaldson who has 25 HRs this year, as well as Dansby Swanson who is on pace for a career year offensively across multiple categories.

Despite all this talent on offense the Braves have a weakness in their bullpen. They recently acquired Shane Green, Mark Melancon, and Chris Martin to tie up those loose ends. Shane Green has been a top reliever thus far this season and can be used in high leverage situations.

Minnesota Twins Form & News

The Twins enter the series 7-3 in their last 10 games played. They have continuously put up lots of runs and hit the long ball consistently all year.

Minnesota are 33-21 at Target Field this year. Nelson Cruz and Max Kepler lead the team with 30 HRs a piece. Jorge Polanco is swinging a hot bat at the top of the lineup and is top 5 in the league for hits this season.

The Twins offensive unit is tough to stop with a plethora of guys who can hit the ball out of the stadium any at bat, as well as guys who hit for a good average.

The relief pitching for the Twins is middle of the road and has some guys susceptible to giving up hits. However Taylor Rogers has been solid closing out games this year.

Braves vs Twins Betting Trends & Stats

  • Twins are 5-0 in their last 5 during Game 1 of the series.
  • Twins are 4-9 in their last 13 vs National League East.
  • Braves are 4-0 in their last 4 games vs a right-handed starter.
  • Braves are 18-4 in Sorokas last 14 road starts.

MLB 8/5 Predictions: Braves vs Twins

Berrios is bit more experienced than Soroka and has more consistent strike out pitches. However, Soroka has done a nice job of keeping the ball in the yard and can limit the Twins explosive offense.

Meanwhile the Braves offense will look to match the Twins output and the newly acquired bullpen arms will close the door on a tight game securing a Braves win.

For these reasons, our MLB 8/5 Predictions see the Braves winning.
