The Rockies enter the game 52-61 on the year and 4-6 in their last 10. The Rockies finished up last season with a loss to the Brewers in the playoffs. They looked to carry that momentum into this season however it has been a bit disappointing.
The offense is one of the better in ranks among the league however the pitching has been a disappointment this season.
Jon Gray will toe the rubber in this matchup for the Rockies. Gray has a 10-7 record on 23 starts this season. He will enter the game with a 4.03 ERA and a batting average allowed of .264.
Gray has a mixed arsenal of pitches that can generate a high percentage of strike outs. He also has had some trouble with walks in many starts this year. Gray has the capability to pitch well and effective.

He has been inconsistent throughout the season but he is two starts removed of his best start of the season. Gray held one of the best teams in baseball, the Dodgers to 3 hits and 1 run over 8 innings.
In his most recent start he was touched up for 9 hits resulting in 4 runs over 4 innings vs the Giants. Grays pitch mix consist off an above average four seam that has good natural sink to it forcing many groundballs. He also uses a hard slider which many of his strike outs come from.
The Rockies offense is headlined by the likes of Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story and Charlie Blackmon. Story is an all-round hitter that leads the team in HRs with 25.
Story is also a threat on the base paths with 14 stolen bags this season. Arenado leads the team in RBIs with 83 and is tied with Blackmon for the team lead in hits at 129. Both are amongst the league leaders in that category.
The other contributors are Ian Desmond and Daniel Murphy. Desmond is .270 hitter who can hit for power. Murphy is putting together a solid season collecting a high amount of hits and can drive guys in with 60 RBI. Offense has turned it up as of late.
San Diego Padres Form & News
The Padres enter the game 51-60 this season and a dreadful 3-7 in their last 10. Padres are a franchise on the come up as many of their young prospects have proven themselves this season.
The also added all-star talent Manny Machado in the off season. The Padres are capable of playing very well however the young talent and inconsistent pitching places them in a difficult spot to make a serious run down the stretch.
Padres projected starter will be youngster Eric Lauer. Lauer enters the matchup 6-8 over 20 starts. He has an ERA of 4.43 and a batting average allowed of .268. He is coming off a win in his latest outing vs the Dodgers.
Lauer threw 6 innings allowed 2 runs and struck out 6. July was a rough month for Lauer as he carried a 6.28 ERA over 14 innings. He has good command of the strike zone, and can generate a good amount of strike outs with his pitches.
Lauer throws his four seam at average speed. His best pitch is his cutter. He throws a hard cutter that has good movement and generates a lot of whiffs. He also mixes in a curveball that has 12-6 action. He gathers more outs via fly ball than groundball.
The Padres offense has a big power threat at the top however they are top 5 in most strikeouts as a team. Manny Machado headlines the order. Machado is a power threat and can hit for a high average.
The hottest hitter in the lineup is rookie shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. Tatis Jr., has a .323 average at the leadoff spot and brings great instincts at the plate and the base paths to the team.
Hunter Renfroe leads the team in homers at 30, and Eric Hosmer leads the team in hits at 122. As of late the offense has put together back to back games of 8 plus runs. However remains inconstant as a unit.
