Phillies vs. Indians MLB Friday Predictions, Preview & MLB Betting Tips

We have Phillies vs. Indians MLB Friday Predictions, Preview & MLB Betting Tips for the important game this Friday night.

Friday night the Philadelphia Phillies travel to play the Cleveland Indians. This will be the first of 3 games on the weekend series between the ball clubs.

This will also be the first meeting between the teams this year. It’s a rare interleague matchup hasn’t been played since 2016 when the Phillies won all 3.

But, these teams have completely different rosters now and this should be a good series between the two talented clubs both on the cusp of the MLB playoffs.

Philadelphia Phillies Form

The Phillies are starting Drew Smyly in this game. Smyly is 4-6 on the year with an ERA over 6. He began this season on the Rangers and was traded to the Phillies in July.

The Phillies are 8-2 in Smylys starts and Smyly has a record of 3-1 in decisions over that span. Smyly hasn’t been sharp overall with the Phillies but the Phillies have scored plenty of runs over Smylys outings to have that 8-2 record in his starts.

Smyly has made it out of the 5th inning 1 time since August. His last 3 outings have been some of his best outings this year but overall Smyly has been inconsistent.

Philadelphia are 78-72 on the year, 35-37 on the road, 6-4 in their last 10, and most importantly 3 games back of a wild card spot.

All these games are critical for the Phillies to make a run as the season comes to a close. The Phillies offense can be high powered but has been inconsistent throughout the season.

Lots of big names on the roster headlined by Bryce Harper. Harper is up to 32 HRs to lead the team along with 104 RBI. Rhys Hoskins is the other big bat in the lineup with 29 HRs and 83 RBI.

Jean Segura and Cesar Hernandez are key players who find ways to put the ball in play and rack up hits. JT Realmuto and Scott Kingery each have some power that can aid the offense.

The offense is playing well recently and will need to continue to do so to win the game. The Phillies are susceptible to big strikeout numbers and that can lead to trouble for the production.

Cleveland Indians Form

The Cleveland Indians are pitching Shane Bieber. Bieber is having a breakout season in which he made the all-star game and was named MVP of the game.

He is 14-7 with a 3.26 ERA over 31 starts. Bieber’s last three starts have resulted in wins for the Indians.

Bieber has been remarkably consistent this season and can strikeout a large number of guys in any outing. This is key as the Phillies batters are big swingers and will chase pitches when setup properly.

The young righty is 5-3 at home this year. He was touched up for 3 HRs in his latest outing at home vs the Twins but should be able to rebound in this game. Bieber has been great all year and will likely get the job done in this outing.

The Cleveland Indians are 89-63 on the year, 46-31 at home, playing extremely well as they are 7-3 in their last 10. The Indians are right in the thick of the race as they sit half a game out of the second wildcard spot and 4 games back of the Twins for the division lead.

They are a sound ball club all around and van beat you in a multitude of ways. Francisco Lindor leads off for the Tribe the swtich hitter has 31 HRs on the year after a late start due to a leg injury.

Lindor has 21 stolen bases as well so he is a threat on the paths. Carlos Santana is the MVP of the Indians offense this year, named to the allstar team, the switch hitter has 34 HRs, 90 RBI and a near 400 OBP.

Rookie Oscar Mercado has played well this year and provides a speed power combo for the offense. Jason Kipnis, Jose Ramirez and Franmil Reyes are all injured and likely to not play.

Kipnis and Ramirez both with wrist injuries and Reyes with personal reasons may be back for Fridays outing.

Closer Brad Allen has been shelved with an injury, however the bullpen hasn’t missed a beat and been consistent in shutting down games.

Phillies vs. Indians MLB Friday Predictions

This game is meaningful for both squads and they will play full lineups to the best of their ability. The Indians have the edge in this one.

Better starting pitcher, more consistent lineup and a better team overall depth wise. This game could get ugly early if the Indians connect of Smyly, if not Smyly won’t work too deep into the game and the Indians will get runs off the Phillies bullpen arms.

Shane Bieber will continue his breakout season pitching superbly and the Indians will be able to get a win in this one.

For these reasons we like the Tribe to win this game.
