Cincinnati Reds Form

The Reds are slated to start ace Sonny Gray. Gray is having a nice rebound year with a 9-6 record and 2.92 record. He is in peak form as he’s only allowed 1 run over his last four starts spanning 24 innings.

He’s racked up 34 strikeouts over that span showing complete command of his pitches. Gray throws a good mix of four seam fastballs, curveballs, sliders, and sinkers.

He is generating a lot of swing and misses with his off-speed pitches as of late. The Reds are 12-3 in Grays last 15 starts, they’ve won his last 6 consecutive outings.

Gray’s road record is a bit unlucky at 1-4, he has pitched very on the road despite the result. In Gray’s outing vs. the Marlins earlier this season, he pitched 4 innings without a run and struck out 6.

Reds currently have a 60-68 record and are 23-37 on the road. They are coming off 4 straight losses and are 5-5 in their last 10. The Reds haven’t been scoring many runs as of late.

The offense is a little handicapped by some injuries currently with Votto and Winker on the IL. Eugenio Suarez remains the biggest threat in the lineup.

Jose Iglesias has been swinging a solid bat as of late with an average of .295 this season. Young players Nick Senzel and Aristedes Aquino have power that can affect a game. New acquisition Freddy Galvis has filled in nicely as of late for the offense.

Miami Marlins Form

The Marlins will have lefty Caleb Smith on the bump. Smith is 8-7 with a 3.82 ERA over 21 starts this season. Smith has been inconsistent this year but has the capability of turning in a gem.

Marlins are 1-3 in his last four, however prior to those they won all 5 of his starts. Smith’s poor outings were against premier offensives however he struggled with command in those games.

Smith is 6-2 at home this season and has minimized the long ball in those outings.

The Marlins are 46-82 on the season and 26-40 at home this year. The Marlins have been bad all year and are 2-8 in their last 10.

Two of their better players will be on the IL for this matchup in Brian Anderson and Miguel Rojas. Starlin Castro will headline whatever lineup the Marlins decide to roll out.

The Marlins rank towards the bottom in nearly all statistics as a team. They strike out a bunch and don’t walk. There is not much good and excitement on the offense for the Marlins with those two key guys out, Sonny Gray should have success regardless.

Reds vs. Marlins MLB Monday Predictions

The Reds should be favored in this matchup on the road. Sonny Gray has been pitching exceptionally well an will be able to take care of business again in this game.

Cincinnati’s offense has been sluggish as of late but this series might be what they need to get back on track and make a NL wildcard push.

Caleb Smith has been good at home but the Reds power will travel and Smith has been bitten by the long ball plenty this season.

For these reasons look for the Reds to win this matchup.
