The Tigers (2-2) come to New York to face the Yankees (1-3) and we have a full preview and MLB Monday tips.
Some order is needing to be restored for the Yankees, which couldn’t have started the season in better form before losing their last two games to the Baltimore Orioles.
Detroit continues their road trip to start the season by sending starting pitcher Tyson Ross into battle against the most talented hitting lineup in Major League Baseball.

Detroit Tigers Form
[table id=27 /]
The Tigers have played all four of their 2019 games to date in Toronto, going 2-2 and winning their most recent game 4-3.
It hasn’t exactly been an offensive showing for the Tigers, which have scored just six runs across those four games and they were held scoreless in consecutive losses to the Blue Jays. A better effort on the offensive front will be needed to hold off the Yankees.
Christin Stewart has been the best player for the Tigers with the long ball, although has hit only one over the fence. Jeimer Candelario leads in the batting average department with .333 BA and he has two RBI’s to his name.
Tigers send Tyson Ross to the mount for the first time this season. Ross is a right-handed pitcher who has started 135 games throughout his career for only three complete games. However, Ross has a solid ERA of 3.95 and that would do against the Yankees, given their power.
He’s on a one-year deal worth $5.75 million so he’ll be out to impress his new bosses on Monday.
New York Yankees Form
[table id=28 /]
The New York Yankees started like a house on fire against the Baltimore Orioles, scoring 7-2 victory on the back of some power hitting from the likes of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres.
That feel-good feeling didn’t last long, however, as the Orioles scored 5-3 and 7-5 in two subsequent games. Starting pitching was always going to be a problem for the Yankees, especially early in the season and Domingo German will look to steady the ship.
German is a Dominican native who has played in only 28 games for the Yankees. He pitched 14.1 innings in 2017 and 85.2 innings last season, resulting in a career ERA of 5.22. He gave up 15 home runs last season and that’s a big problem of his.
German has a chance to be a breakout player for the Yankees this season but his statistics will need to improve. He’s helped out by pitching against the offensively-stagnant Detroit Tigers on Monday.
Don’t expect this losing form to continue for the Yankees, who are still a top pick in the MLB American League.
Tigers vs Yankees Betting Trends
- Tigers are 1-4 in their last 5 Monday games.
- Tigers are 15-37 in their last 54 road games.
- Yankees are 5-2 in German’s last 7 home starts.
- Under is 4-0 in the Tigers last 4 games overall.
- Over is 4-0 in Yankees last 4 during game 1 of a series.
Tigers vs Yankees MLB Monday Tips
The Yankees might be on a two-game losing streak having lost twice to the Baltimore Orioles, but they should have too much scoring power for the Detroit Tigers at Yankee Stadium.
Both starting pitchers have their negatives but Domingo German has a good fast ball and if he can control the strike zone, expect German and the Yankees to dominate this game.
Detroit simply doesn’t score enough runs to keep up with the Yankees, who have been averaging 5 runs per game, compared to the 1.5 runs per game for the Tigers.
Tip: Yankees SU (-210)
