The new NBA season tips off on October 22 and we have Pelicans vs Raptors Picks, NBA Predictions & Free Basketball Bets.

Expectations are high for both teams this season. The Raptors are looking to defend their title without Kawhi Leonard. Whereas all eyes will be on Zion Williamson for the Pelicans.

It’s certainly an intriguing opening game of the 2019/2020 season and it all goes down at 8:00pm at Scotiabank Arena.

New Orleans Pelicans Form

It’s tough to know what to expect from the Pelicans this season. Their playoff hopes are certainly helped by the addition of Zion Williamson.

However, can the Pelicans recover after losing Anthony Davis to the LA Lakers? Or, will this season be put down as a learning experience?

They are certainly a chance of beating the Toronto Raptors in the opening game. Up until this point, they have gone undefeated in preseason and that will give them confidence.

As a unit, the Pelicans have a good roster which could mature into a handy team. Williamson and Favours provide some bolster up front – not to mention some impending dunks.

The back court has the likes of Lonzo Ball, Jrue Holliday and sharp shooter JJ Redick. If those three can click offensively, the Pelicans will give the Raptors plenty to think about.

Jrue Holliday had a great year last season and he could go to another level here. With Zion attracting a couple of defenders around the rim, that should allow Holliday to roam free.

They also have the kick-out option of Redick in the corner. That provides a good balance for the Pelicans and they should only improve throughout the season.

Toronto Raptors Form

Losing Kawhi Leonard immediately after winning the NBA Championship was a tough loss for the Raptors. However, it’s not all doom and gloom this season.

They still have a nucleus of players who are able to win more games than they’ll lose.

Offensive production will be on the shoulders of Kyle Lowry, who will need to mature if they’re wanting to win.

The key with the Raptors is their big men who can also shoot. We talk about Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka – who are both reliable players.

They might find it tough to defend Zion and that could take some energy out of their offseason. But the Raptors play well within their system and they shouldn’t be underrated.

Preseason form doesn’t mean much, but it has been a mixed bag for the Raptors. They started with a win over the Rockets but losing the return game.

They then lost heavily to the Bulls but we shouldn’t look too much into those games.

Bettors should be expecting a fully fit Raptors team to fire in the opening game.

Pelicans vs Raptors Picks & NBA Predictions

Bookmakers have the Raptors as –5.5 favorites and we’re not surprised by that line.

Toronto is expected to make a winning start at home but we’re smelling an upset.

New Orleans will be full of aggression and keen to show that they’re NBA playoff contenders.

For that reason, we’re predicting the Pelicans to keep this game close on Tuesday and cover the spread.
