NBA Predictions, Picks & Preview – Trail Blazers vs Warriors Game 1
We have NBA Predictions for Game 1 between the Portland Trail Blazers vs Golden State Warriors on Tuesday May 14.
Portland made it into the Western Conference Finals on the back of a come-from-behind win over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday. It was a do-or-die situation and they came up strong.
The Warriors have been awaiting an opponent since beating Houston in six games and they’re the overwhelming favorite in this series.
Our NBA Predictions look at the form and latest news from both the Trail Blazers and Warriors for the all-important Game 1.
Portland Trail Blazers Form & News
They trailed by as much as 17 points in Game 7 against Denver on Sunday but it mattered not. CJ McCollum was fantastic in their 100-96 win, scoring 37 points. McCollum was called upon to perform when it counted as Damian Lillard had an off night, scoring just 13 points, largely due to a couple of late threes.
It was the kind of performance which will give the Trail Blazers plenty of confidence. They went into enemy territory and got ambushed early, but they gradually fought back and took the lead in the fourth quarter.
“There wasn’t going to be any quit,” Blazers coach Terry Stotts said. “I didn’t think they ever stopped believing… It was just about regrouping.”
Despite winning an amazing Game 7, the Blazers now have a much harder task against the Golden State Warriors. Defending the likes of Jokic and Murray doesn’t come close to defending Kevin Durant, Steph Curry or Klay Thompson.
For Portland to win Game 1 in Oakland, they’re going to need not just a big showing from McCollum, but Lillard will have to show his worth.
Golden State Warriors Form & News
The injury to Kevin Durant threatened to derail the season for the Warriors, but they didn’t let that worry them.
Despite Durant going down in Game 5, they fought back and came out ahead. Despite going into Houston with KD, they came ahead.
Game 6 was the Curry Show, with Steph Curry going absolutely ballistic in the second half. He had 0 points at the halftime break but made just about everything he jacked up in the second.
Curry, who is averaging 27.3 points per game in the NBA Playoffs, will welcome the challenge of playing the Portland Trail Blazers, which includes his brother Seth.
During the regular season, the Trail Blazers and Warriors split their four-game series and it was Portland which won the most recent game. That was a 129-107 smashing of the Warriors and that could play on the minds of the Warriors’ players.
For Golden State to win Game 1, they’ll need to match the energy of Portland. Trail Blazers will come out guns blazing and the Warriors need to weather the early storm.
