After a big win in primetime over the Cleveland Browns, the undefeated San Francisco 49ers travel to take on the defending NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams in Week 6 action.
Kickoff will be at 4:05 P.M. EST on Sunday, October 13. The current betting odds have the Rams as a 3-point favorite with an over/under of 50.5.
San Francisco 49ers Form
The whole country tuned in Monday Night to see if the undefeated 49ers were for real. The Niners responded by trouncing the visiting Browns in all three phases of the game, rolling to a 31-3 victory as a 5-point favorite.
Winning improved the Niners, one of the most storied franchises in NFL history, to 4-0 for the first time in 29 years.
QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 20-of-29 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns in Week 5 and holds the longest active streak in the NFL with a touchdown pass in 11 consecutive games.
On the ground, RB Matt Breida leads the NFL with 6.5 yards per carry. While the Niners have the No. 1 rushing offense (200 yards per game) and No. 2 scoring offense (31.8 points per game) in the league.
San Fran has been just as impressive on defense, ranking No. 5 in overall defense, No. 5 against the rush and No. 2 against the pass.
All of these numbers should be cautioned by the fact that the Niners have played the seventh-easiest schedule thus far and have yet to beat a team with a winning record.
LA Rams Form
Following a 3-0 start to the season, it looked like the Rams picked up where they left off last season when they advanced to the Super Bowl.
However, the team has hit a major speed bump, losing its last two games.
The main concern for the Rams is a defense that has given up 85 points in the last two weeks to Seattle and Tampa Bay and is suddenly ranked just 13th best in the league.
Also, as they get ready to go up against the best rushing attack in the NFL, the Rams have to be worried. Seattle ran for 167 yards and during last week’s game in which LA lost 30-29 on Thursday night.
The Rams rank fifth in the league in total offense (413.6 yards per game) and sixth in the league in scoring offense (29.2). But, it has featured a very unbalanced attack, ranking second in the NFL in passing offense but 22nd in rushing.
49ers vs Rams Head-to-Head
The Rams have won three of the last four meetings between the two teams and but has only gone 2-2 against the spread.
But when digging into the history books you’ll find that the Niners are a profitable 26-10-2 against the spread since 1981 when they are the visitor in the series.
49ers vs Rams Picks
It’s a classic case of buy low and sell high here as we’ll take the Rams at home minus the field goal.
The whole world saw San Francisco look like world beaters on Monday Night and we think they come into this game not only a little overrated.
One of its top offensive linemen and the starting fullback will be sidelined and that will most certainly affect the running game the team has leaned so heavily on.
Meanwhile, the Rams have played a much tougher schedule and have the benefit of extra rest. They played last Thursday night in Seattle while the Niners come in off a short week after hosting the Monday Night game.
Finally, LA Rams head coach Sean McVay has yet to lose three games in a row in his short career, and we don’t expect it to happen here today.
