Tampa Bay Buccaneers Predictions

Bruce Arians didn’t get off to a good start in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers lost a Week 1 home game to the 49ers 31-17. To be fair, the final score is a little misleading.

The Bucs were only down six points with a little more than two minutes left on the clock, giving them a chance to score a touchdown to win the game. However, Jameis Winston threw a pick-six, giving San Francisco a somewhat lopsided win.

To add insult to injury, that was the second pick-six of the day for Winston, who was in a living nightmare in Week 1. He threw three interceptions while tight end O.J. Howard lost a fumble, giving the Bucs an unacceptable four turnovers on the day.

Even if you take away the turnovers, Winston had a poor outing, completing just 20 of his 36 passes for less than 200 yards. The hope in Tampa was that Arians would get Winston back on track, but that doesn’t seem to be the case early in the season.

If there’s a silver lining, it’s that the Tampa defense had a decent day. The Bucs held the 49ers under 100 yards rushing and limited Jimmy Garoppolo to just 166 passing yards.

If you take away the two pick-sixes that Winston threw, the Bucs only allowed one touchdown and three field goals. The defense was also responsible for one of Tampa’s scores, as Vernon Hargreaves had a pick-six of his own in the second quarter, so the Buccaneers may be able to build off of a strong performance from their defense in Week 1.

Carolina Panthers Predictions

The Panthers are also coming off a loss in Week 1 and will be desperate to get their first win of the season on Thursday. Like Tampa Bay, the Panthers suffered a loss at home, but they did so at the hands of the reigning NFC champion Rams.

Despite falling behind 13-0 late in the second quarter, Carolina was able to make a game of it but ultimately lost 30-27 to the Rams.

Offensively, the Panthers couldn’t get anything going in the first half until scoring a field goal right before going to the locker room. Things started to get better in the second half, as Christian McCaffrey gave the Rams a world of trouble.

McCaffrey ended up rushing for 128 yards and two touchdowns while also catching 10 passes for another 81 yards. However, while McCaffrey can be a beast, it may not be best for Carolina if he’s their leading receiver.

DJ Moore had a solid day with seven catches for 76 yards, but he also lost a fumble. The rest of the Carolina receivers didn’t make much of an impact.

Meanwhile, Cam Newton was surprisingly a non-factor on the ground, only running three times.

Defensively, it’s hard to get a beat on where the Panthers stand. By last year’s standards, giving up 30 points to the Rams would have been considered a positive, especially with the offense giving away three turnovers.

The Carolina defense didn’t give up the long ball in the passing game, but they were also shredded on the ground, allowing 5.2 yards per carry.

Buccanners vs. Panthers head-to-head

As NFC South rivals, these two teams are quite familiar with one another. They’ve played twice a year since 2002 and have had a growing rivalry ever since.

Not surprisingly, the Panthers have gotten the better of Tampa Bay in recent years, winning nine of the last 12 meetings between the two teams. However, the Bucs and Panthers split last year’s two meetings with both teams winning on their home field.

For what it’s worth, the Bucs have just one win in their last six trips to Charlotte.

Buccanners vs. Panthers Betting Trends

  • Panthers are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games on grass.
  • Buccaneers are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games.
  • Underdog is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings.
  • Road team is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings.

Buccanners vs. Panthers NFL Week 2 Predictions

The Panthers showed some flaws in Week 1, but they also deserve a little bit of a pass for having to play the Rams. On the other hand, it’s hard to find many excuses for why the Buccaneers were so pitiful last week, especially on offense.

The Panthers should have enough talent on defense to shut down a Tampa offense that looked so inept in Week 1.

That should be enough to feel comfortable picking Carolina to win and cover on Thursday night.
