Carolina Panthers Form

When All-Pro QB Cam Newton went down with an injury in Week 4, the hopes for another Super Bowl run by the Panthers were dim.

But back-up QB Kyle Allen has reignited those hopes, leading the Panthers to four wins in a row and a 4-2 record. They head into San Francisco to take on the undefeated Niners.

Despite very little NFL experience, the second-year pro out of the University of Houston has compiled a 106.6 passer rating while throwing seven TD passes and zero interceptions.

In two starts with Allen under center, Carolina scored 34 points in a win over Jacksonville and 37 points in a win over Tampa Bay. The team ranks ninth in the league in passing success rate.

Newton continues to rehab and there was some talk that he may try to come back this week. But for now this is Allen’s team and that’s not such a bad thing since the offense has most certainly responded.

However, there is a concern that the young QB has fumbled six times in his short stint behind center.

Defensively, the Panthers rank ninth in the league in points allowed per game (22.1) and 12th in total defense.

San Francisco 49ers Form

The Niners are back! One of the NFL’s most storied franchises has its fan base jacked and pumped after starting the season 6-0 for the third time in history.

There’s no question that the backbone of this team is the defense. The Niners defense has been downright suffocating and rank in the top four of the NFL in points per game allowed (10.6).

They also rank well for total yards per game (223), rushing yards per game (90) and passing yards per game (133).

With a defense that is dominating, the offense hasn’t had to do much, and it hasn’t. With a high profile QB in Jimmy Garoppolo behind center, the Niners haven’t had to throw the ball too much.

That’s thanks to having the lead in most games this season and a punishing rush offense that ranks second in the NFL behind Baltimore. They average 172 yards per game and 4.4 yards per carry.

Carolina Panthers vs San Francisco 49ers Head-to-Head

This is just the second meeting between these two NFC rivals since 2017, when the Panthers drilled the Niners, 23-3, as a four-point favorite.

Carolina Panthers vs San Francisco 49ers Predictions

San Francisco’s stock couldn’t be any higher right now, so we’re going to go ahead and sell, sell, sell.

Yes, the numbers both on the stat sheet and in the win-loss column are very impressive. But you can’t discount the fact that the Niners have put up these numbers against a schedule that has included five teams with a losing record.

They have also had the third-easiest schedule of opposing pass offenses.

The Niners enter off back-to-back road games that included a trip across the country last week to the East Coast where they played a grueling game in the pouring rain.

The Panthers are fresh off a bye week.

Carolina is 12-6 against the spread in its last 18 games as a dog, including 8-4 ATS as a road dog and 6-4 ATS as a road dog of seven points or less.

Meanwhile, San Fran is not accustomed to being the favorite and has not responded well to that role. They went just 3-7 against the spread as a chalk over the last three seasons, including 1-5 ATS as a home favorite.

This number is a bit inflated as the Niners step way up in competition. Take the points!
