Indianapolis Colts Form

The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a 10 win season last year. The Colts received a major loss this off season when supremely talented QB Andrew Luck suddenly retired.

Colts will need to manufacture some offense and need to replace 4600 yards and nearly 40 TDs. Indianapolis have a decent backup now starter in Jacoby Brissett.

The Colts fortunately have big play makers around Brissett to ease the transition. Big play WR TY Hilton will be the top passing option, along with two solid TEs in Eric Ebron who had a monster year last year and is a huge red zone threat and Jack Doyle who is steady handed and makes catches when needed.

Marlon Mack looks to head the back field coming off a season of 900 rushing yards and 9 TDs. The Colts have solid O line play and will need to be even better without Luck. They return a strong defense.

MLB Darius Leonard broke out in a huge season last year. He is a solid building block and big playmaker in the middle of the Colts defense.

Colts were stout versus the run last season and limited big passing plays. The defense didn’t allow a single 100 yard rusher last season.

They still have a lot to look for this season, playing without Luck will be a challenge but the team is good enough to compete.

LA Chargers Form

The Los Angeles Chargers are coming off a 12 win season. The Chargers have played well at home games inside this stadium, winning 5 of their last 6 at home.

This is pretty impressive as it is probably the least favorable home field advantage in the NFL. As they wait for their new multibillion dollar stadium they play in a tiny soccer arena which is usually filled with a majority of visiting fans.

The Chargers return a good core of players from last year. Still lead on offense by veteran QB Phillip Rivers. Rivers has some good options to get the ball too primarily Keenan Allen who is very underrated overall and a supreme route runner and finds ways to get open.

Mike Williams is a big WR who can go up and snag balls out the air, a huge red zone threat he can win 1-1 matchups regularly. The Chargers star RB Melvin Gordon is amidst a hold out and will more than likely miss the first handful of games settling his contract dispute.

Look for Alex Ekeler and Justin Jackson to carry the load. They will not miss a beat in the offense as Ekeler can gain yards and is shift and is good pass catcher and makes plays in space.

Justin Jackson did well with his limited carries last year but will change pace nicely and mix in well as needed early this year.

On defense the Chargers have two reliable threats on the edge rush in Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram.

The secondary will be held down by Casey Hayward and Adrian Phillips.

They will be missing young star Derwin James who will be out with a foot injury.

Colts vs. Chargers Betting Trends

Colts vs. Chargers NFL Week 1 Predictions

The Chargers are loaded on both sides of the ball and are sneaky Super Bowl winners. Without Luck the Colts offense will be significantly less threatening and limited.

Phillip Rivers and the offense will be able to move the ball downfield put points up much more consistent than the Colts.

Lay the points and pick the Chargers to cover the spread in a 27-17 win.
