Atlanta Falcons Form

Has it really only been three years since the Falcons were the NFC Champions and well on their way to beating the mighty Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

Oh, how things have changed.

Not only is Atlanta mired in a three-game losing streak, but head coach Dan Quinn is under fire. If the Falcons don’t come home from Arizona with a win this week, the organization may very well take a cue from the Washington Redskins.

Their head coach is just 1-4 against the spread this season.

Last week’s 53-32 loss at Houston as a four-point dog was reason enough to fire Quinn, who is supposed to be a defensive guru.

While the Atlanta offense is sputtering, failing to score over 20 points in a single game, the defense hasn’t been much better, allowing 11 passing touchdowns since Week 2, the most in the NFL.

The 13 total touchdowns allowed in the red zone this season are the second most in the NFL.

Making matters worse, the team has a minus-5 turnover differential and Atlanta’s 22 defensive penalties this year are the most in the league.

Arizona Cardinals Form

Rookie head coach Kilff Kingsbury and rookie QB Kyler Murray combined to earn their first NFL win last week when the Cardinals went on the road in Cincinnati to beat the winless Bengals, 26-23, thanks to a last second field goal.

The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Cards, after they stormed back and ended up tying the Lions in the season opener.

They have managed to cover three of their five games this season.

The Cardinals offense is averaging just 20 points per game and the defense has been just as bad, with no interceptions while allowing 12 passing TDs, the worst differential in the NFL.

The Arizona defense is 27th in the league against the rush, 24th against the pass, and 28th in overall scoring defense.

Falcons vs Cardinals Head-to-Head

Atlanta has won four of the last five games these two teams have played against each other, including last year when the Falcons cruised to a 40-14 romp at home.

But all four of those series wins for the Falcons came at home.

The last time the Falcons and Cardinals met in Arizona, the Red Birds prevailed, 27-13, back in 2013.

Falcons vs Cardinals Picks

Yes, both offenses are struggling to put up points, but both of these QBs are more than capable of having break out games, especially when you consider how poorly the two secondaries are playing right now, so we think this game climbs up and over the big number of 51.5.

Despite the low point output for each team, they play at a fast pace, averaging 65 plays or more.

Playing on the fast track of the dome, look for both defensive units to tire in the second half and keep that scoreboard operator busy.

Atlanta has played on the road three times this season and those games have averaged a combined 58.6 points. We see a similar style game brewing this week in Arizona.
