LA Chargers Form

After falling to 2-5 with a horrible three-game losing streak, the Chargers have righted the ship, winning two in a row. That includes a very impressive 26-11 dismantling of Green Bay last Sunday at home as a four-point dog.

The effort the Bolts got from their defense on Sunday may very well have been the biggest story of Week 9. They held QB Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense to season lows in points scored (11), rushing yard (45), passing yards (139) and total yards (184).

What’s even more impressive is the fact that Green Bay got a bulk of those yards in garbage time against a prevent LA defense in the fourth quarter.

The LA defense has been outstanding all season, ranking seventh in total defense while limiting opponents to 322 yards per game and just 18.7 points per game.

Only one team (Houston) has scored more than 24 points against the Chargers this season.

As for the offense, it has been a work in progress all season, particularly the running game that ranks just 28th in the league with 3.8 yards per rush.

Last week’s 159 yards on the ground against the Packers marked the first time since Week 2 that the Chargers managed to run for more than 80 yards in a single game.

After a sluggish start to the season, veteran QB Philip Rivers has been very good the last three weeks, completing 67% of this passes for 824 yards and three TDs.

For the season, LA has the sixth-best passing attack in the league, gaining 281.3 yards per game via the air.

Oakland Raiders Form

After playing in six road venues during a seven-week stretch, the Raiders returned home for the first time since Week 2 of the season on Sunday. They beat the visiting Lions, 31-24, as a field goal favorite.

The win evened Oakland’s record to 4-4 and kept them in contention for an NFL playoff bid, a feat that many thought would be unthinkable for this team in transition in 2019. However, here they are with four wins through eight games.

Quite frankly, none of the team’s numbers or statistics are very impressive. Especially on defense where the Raiders rank 28th overall, allowing 290 yards and 27 points per game.

Opponents have had great success throwing the ball against Oakland all season as the team ranks dead last in the NFL in pass defense. They are giving up 297.5 yards per game and 8.8 yards per attempt.

After a slow start to the season, the Raiders offense has been able to keep the team afloat, averaging 26.8 points over the last five games.

Led by QB Derek Carr, Oakland has the 11th ranked offense in the league with 22.8 points per game overall and an average of 381.6 total yards.

LA Chargers vs Oakland Raiders Head-to-Head

The Chargers have dominated the series over the last two seasons, winning all four meetings both straight up and against the spread.

The average margin of victory in those four games was 12.8 points per game.

Overall, the Raiders lead the all-time series between these two divisional rivals, 63-54-2.

LA Chargers vs Oakland Raiders NFL Week 10 Picks

While the numbers and analytics may lean heavily to the Chargers, the eye test tells us that the Raiders are the better team right now. Therefore, we can’t help but pass them up as a prime time home dog tonight.

Oakland is just 9-9 in its last 18 home games, but many of those games were played when the team was well out of contention for the NFL playoffs.

You can expect the Black Hole to be as loud as it has been in the last couple years for this key divisional game being played on national television.
