Oakland Raiders News - Raiders Thrive In Tottenham’s New Stadium

Oakland Raiders News & NFL News

The Oakland Raiders were thrilled to have played another NFL game on Sunday over the weekend. Oakland claimed a 24-20 win over the Chicago Bears at the New Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The match was the first time that an NFL fixture has been played in the recently opened ground, and fans were thrilled to have seen such an exciting match.

Oakland went ahead in the second quarter, before being pegged back in the third following a run of 21 straight points for the Bears. However, they struck back in style in the final quarter to score seven unanswered points.

Derek Carr completed 293 passing yards, while the touchdowns for the Raiders came through a brace from Joshua Jacobs, as well as one for Andre Washington.

It was a hard-fought win for the Raiders, and they have particularly thrived when travelling to London to play their fixtures.

The players were as thrilled about playing in the new stadium as much as they were about the win. A few of the players spoke exclusively to British channels after the match as it was shown live on a terrestrial channel as well as on cable.

Hunter Renfrow said: “It feels good to get a win. It was a rollercoaster, wasn’t it? We scored early, they came back, but it’s kind of like golf – it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. And we finished well.”

Meanwhile, cornerback Gareon Conley said: “Feels great man. Long road game. It was supposed to be a home game! But it feels good to get that team win.”

Linebacker Tahir Whitehead echoed that review of the game. He said: “Man, a whole bunch of feelings right now but overall all I’m doing great just excited happy that we ended up victorious. It was an emotional game, a rollercoaster of a game but we weathered the storm.”

Renfrow also went on to talk about the week that they have experienced in London, and why the Raiders love coming to play their games across the pond.

He continued: “It’s a lot of fun. It takes me back to my high school days where we played baseball, and we played a lot of away games and you really just bonded through those away games.

“I feel like this week we’ll look back in the year and think: ‘that was the week we kind of came together as a team’. We didn’t figure it out, but we definitely took some steps in the right direction.

“[Being away from home for so long] has helped just with the camaraderie because we haven’t seen our families for a week and a half/two weeks and then we have four more road games coming up. So it’s just a great time to bond and have ourselves as our own family.”

Richie Incognito also echoed those feelings. He revealed what he thought of London as well as the new stadium. He said: “It has been amazing. The week in London was really excellent. This is my second time here. I brought my whole family over; my mum, my brother, and my stepdad and we really had a blast. We saw all the sights and sounds.

London’s a great place, so it was really awesome. This Tottenham Stadium was really, really impressive.”

What’s next for the Raiders?

The Raiders will have time to recover before their next outing in the NFL.

They have a ten-day break before travelling to the Lambeau Field, but the bookmakers still feel that the travelling will have an effect on their performance and they are ranked as outsiders to get another win against the Green Bay Packers.
