Oakland Raiders Form

The Raiders were the surprise team of the NFL three weeks ago when they went to London and upset the Bears. That came one week after shocking Indy on the road, and then headed into the bye week with a 3-2 record.

But the good times did not roll into last week when Oakland went to Green Bay as a 5-point dog and got stepped on by the Pack, 42-24.

Despite that loss, not much was expected from the Raiders this season. So, even as they enter this week 3-3 it has been a decent run thus far.

The major bright spot for Oakland this year has been the offense, which has scored an average of 26 points per game the last three weeks.

Facing the second-most difficult schedule of opposing defenses, Jon Gruden’s Oakland attack ranks second in the NFL in passing success rate and 11th in rushing success rate.

The offensive line is protecting QB Derek Carr admirably and the veteran QB has been getting rid of the ball quickly.

Last week in the loss to Green Bay, he completed 22 of 28 passes for nearly 300 yards, but a couple poor decisions cost his team dearly.

The other side of the ball is a different story. The Oakland defense allowed Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers to enjoy one of the best performances of this storied career last week and ranks 24th overall in total defense.

But problems are mounting as the team is suffering from a cluster of injuries to an already weak defensive secondary.

Houston Texans Form

QB Deshaun Watson and the Texans were the toast of the NFL after winning four of five game. That includes knocking off Patrick Mahomes and the mighty Chiefs in Kansas City.

But last week was a reality check, as the Texans went to visit their chief divisional rival and left Indianapolis with a 30-23 defeat as a one-point dog.

The Texans embattled secondary was torched by QB Jacoby Brissett and the Indy offense for 321 yards and four TD passes in the loss.

Things are not about to get much better for the Houston “D” as both starting cornerbacks and the starting free safety are expected to miss Sunday’s visit from Oakland.

On offense, Watson was getting some MVP attention earlier this season, and for good reason. But, he has cooled off the last two weeks, throwing just two TD passes to go along with four interceptions.

Even still, the Texans still rank fourth in the NFL for total yards per game and seventh in the league in points per game. They have been especially good in the last three weeks, averaging 35.7 points per game.

Oakland Raiders vs Houston Texans Head-to-Head

The last two meetings between these two teams came in back-to-back seasons in 2016 and 2017.

In 2017, Houston beat the Raiders, 27-14, at home as a four-point favorite. In 2016, the teams met in Mexico City and the Raiders prevailed, 27-20, as a 6.5-point chalk.

Oakland Raiders vs Houston Texans Predictions

The over/under on this game opened at 48 and soared to 51.5 and we can’t argue with the big move.

We have two very efficient offenses and two of the better offensive lines in the NFL. They are going up against two defenses that are not only struggling in recent weeks (both defenses allowing more than 29 points per game the last three games).

However, they are also dealing with significant injuries.

What’s more, Oakland (No. 31) and Houston (No. 30) rank at the very bottom of the league in red zone defense. Which means scoring drives are much more likely to result in TDs rather than FGs.

Four of Oakland’s five games this season have gone over, including all three road games.

It’s a shootout! Play the over.
