Carolina Panthers Form

The big news out of Carolina this week came when it was confirmed that QB Cam Newton will be lost for the season. However, that certainly doesn’t diffuse any dreams of making a deep run in the NFL playoffs for the Panthers.

Since Newton went down early in the season, back-up Kyle Allen, an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M, has gone 5-1 as the starter. He has completed 60.9% of his passes for 1,291 yards with nine touchdowns, four interceptions and an 87.8 passer rating.

For the season, the Panthers rank just 22nd in total offense with 339.8 yards per game. They have managed to score 26.1 points per game, 10th best in the league.

Running back Christian McCaffrey became the sixth player in NFL history with 1,200-plus scrimmage yards. He also has 13 touchdowns in the first eight games of the season and has been a force.

He has helped the Panthers put up the seventh-best average rushing yards per game (132.9) in the league.

The Carolina defense ranks 19th in the league, allowing 360.4 yards per game, but has been very good against the pass. That ranks ninth in the league with 227 yards per game via the air.

The Panthers lead the NFL in sacks with 34 and have a league-high nine players have at least two sacks.

Much of the damage done to the Carolina “D” came two weeks ago at San Francisco when it gave up 51 points. But take that game away and six of the other seven opponents failed to score more than 27 points.

Green Bay Packers Form

The Packers headed to the West Coast last week owners of a four-game winning streak and with a 7-1 record they were in complete control of the NFC North.

But that all changed when Green Bay laid an egg against the Chargers in a 26-11 loss as a four-point favorite as Aaron Rodgers and the offense got completely stymied.

During the four-game winning streak, Green Bay averaged 32.5 points per game. However, after posting season-low offensive totals against the Chargers the Pack now has the 17th ranked offense in the NFL.

They are averaging 352.4 yards per game, led by its 257.1 yards per game via the pass, which ranks 12th in the league.

Defensively, the Packers are regressing. After allowing just 11.6 points per game to start the season 3-0, the last six opponents have scored over 26 points per game.

Overall, the Pack ranks 26th in total defense (382.9 yards per game), but 11th in scoring defense (21 points per game).

Panthers vs Packers Head-to-Head

The Packers lead the regular-season series, 8-6, but the Panthers have won the last two.

The last time they met was in December 2017, when Rodgers returned from a broken collarbone, but the Panthers won at home, 31-24, as a 3-point favorite.

Panthers vs Packers Predictions & NFL Week 10 Picks

We see these two teams as dead even both from a talent standpoint and when you compare the numbers. Therefore, we’ll gladly take the 5.5 points with the Panthers, who match up very well with the Packers.

With a running game that ranks just 22nd in the NFL, Green Bay has relied heavily on the passing game and that plays into the hands of the Panthers and their 10th-ranked pass defense.

We also like Carolina’s 7th-ranked rushing offense against the Pack’s 24th-ranked rush defense, and the fact that the Panthers have covered 12 of their last 19 games as an underdog.
