Tennessee Titans Form

The Titans have to be kicking themselves after their Week 2 loss to the Colts, another AFC South rival. Tennessee was most impressive in their 30-point blowout of the Browns in Week 1, but to follow it up with a home loss in a game they led midway through the fourth quarter was a huge letdown.

A field goal in the final four minutes would have been enough, but a late drive came up short in the 19-17 loss.

The good news for the Titans is that Derrick Henry and the running game have been consistent during the first two weeks of the season. Henry is rushed for 80 yards and found the end zone in each of the first two games of the season.

However, backup Dion Lewis is yet to get it going. More importantly, Marcus Mariota had a rough day against the Colts after making several brilliant throws in Week 1.

Corey Davis hasn’t been involved much during the first two games of the season, so the Titans aren’t doing much down the field. Mariota has also been sacked four times in each of the first two games, which is creating problems for the Tennessee offense.

On the other side of the ball, the Tennessee defense is holding their own and then some. They benefited from Indianapolis kicker Adam Vinatieri missing two PATs last week but still managed to hold the Colts to 19 points while forcing two turnovers.

Most weeks, that’s going to be enough to win, so it’s hard to pin the 1-1 start on the Tennessee defense.

Jacksonville Jaguars Form

Meanwhile, the Jaguars are desperate for a win heading into Week 3 after starting the year 0-2. In fairness, the Jags had to deal with the Chiefs in Week 1 and were mere millimeters from stealing a win against the Titans in Week 2.

In his first career start, rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew led a late touchdown drive, to make it a 1-point game late.

Playing for the win on the road, Leonard Fournette was agonizingly close to converting the 2-point conversion, only to be ruled just shy of breaking the goal line. It now leaves the Jaguars facing a virtual must-win game on Thursday.

Despite the Jaguars only scoring 12 points, Minshew gave a good account of himself in his first career start. He connected on 23 of his 33 passes without throwing an interception and had the poise to lead the Jacksonville offense to a touchdown on the final drive of the game.

DJ Chark and Chris Conley are starting to emerge as a reliable wide receiver tandem, helping to answer one of the bigger questions the Jags were facing heading into the season. Minshew even showed some athleticism, running six times for 56 yards against the Texans.

The problem is that Fournette was kept under wraps for most of the game, making it hard for the Jacksonville offense to find the balance they need.

However, the Jacksonville defense was much better in Week 2. Facing Deshaun Watson isn’t much different from facing Pat Mahomes in Week 1, but the Jags were able to keep the Houston offense in check most of the game.

The only touchdown Jacksonville gave up was after the Texans recovered a Minshew fumble at the 11-yard line. Other than that, the Jaguars bottled up a potent Houston offense.

Titans vs. Jaguars head-to-head

These two have forged a bitter rivalry with one another over the years, especially after the Titans moved to Nashville.

Tennessee has won the last four head-to-head meetings with Jacksonville, sweeping the season series in two straight years.

Even with the Jaguars went to the AFC Championship Game in 2017, two of their losses during the regular season came against the Titans, making them a thorn in Jacksonville’s side in recent years.

Titans vs. Jaguars Betting Trends

  • Jaguars are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 home games.
  • Jacksonville are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games in September.
  • Titans are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. AFC South.
  • Favorite is 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 meetings.

Titans vs. Jaguars NFL Week 3 Predictions

It’s almost impossible to know what version of Mariota and the Titans is going to show up, especially on a short week.

At the same time, Jacksonville’s desperation could work in their favor, especially if they can get the home crowd behind them.

There’s clearly hope for Minshew after his first career start, so look for him to get his first career win this week.

Bet on the Jags as 2-point underdogs at home.
