NHL Predictions, Preview & Betting Tips – St Louis Blues vs San Jose Sharks Game 3
We have NHL Predictions for Game 3 between the St Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks.
The unpredictability of the Stanley Cup lives on in the playoffs, as no leading sides are remaining in the competition. That presents a marvellous opportunity for either of these sides to leave their mark on the 2018-19 season.
The series is deadlocked after a tense first two games to start off. The opening game went the way of the San Jose Sharks before the Blues tied the series last time out. But, what could game three have in store for us?
Can Sharks regain home advantage?
The Sharks missed a glorious opportunity to take advantage of their game one win last time out as they fell to a 4-2 loss. This is now the third straight playoff game in which the Sharks have failed to win their opening two games of the series.
However, it was Robert Bortuzzo’s goal in the second period that put the Blues on the route to success at the SAP Center. The insurance goal was added by Oskar Sundqvist with just over three minutes remaining of normal time, while Sharks goalkeeper Martin Jones made 25 saves during the defeat.
The downfall for San Jose was of their own doing, as they were hugely wasteful with the chances that they created. It was more goals in the playoffs for the leading scorer Logan Couture for the Sharks, as he netted his 12th and 13th goals of the postseason.
He was the only player in Sharks colours that was taking the chances, however. San Jose finished the match having had 25 shots on goal, with eight of those coming from Couture and Timo Meier.
Sharks’ fans have been here before
It was very much déjà vu for the home fans, after experiencing their side win away at both the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche in the opening two rounds before going onto lose in game two on home ice on both occasions.
The Avalanche got the closest to knocking out the Sharks; with neither side able to win consecutive matches before game seven; in which San Jose won 3-2 last week to advance to this matchup.
They impressed during the 6-3 win in game one; however, the Blues came back with a vengeance on Monday and looked the better team. St Louis controlled the game effectively and took good care of the puck in the neutral zone.
The one bright spark for the Sharks was their ability under the pressure of St Louis penalties; in which they killed all five. However, their offensive problems were only highlighted further on their own advantages; as they failed on both their two chances.
This has also worsened their recent record on powerplays to just three goals from their last 26 efforts over the past nine matches. The Blues will be hoping for a repeat performance in game three, while the Sharks will be hopeful of turning the tide; but it won’t be easy.
NHL Predictions – St Louis vs San Jose Game 3
Our NHL Predictions have the St Louis Blues taking a commanding 2-1 lead in the series.
The loss in game two means that the Sharks now must win a game on the road if they are to progress to the Stanley Cup finals for the second time in the last four years.
However, their form doesn’t offer much hope as they have only won twice in four fixtures on the road, while the Blues have won three of their seven home fixtures.
