New York Islanders vs Carolina Hurricanes tips

The second round of the NHL Playoffs starts with the New York Islanders vs Carolina Hurricanes and we have all your NHL tips available.

The unpredictability of the NHL playoffs has been highlighted once again this year, as the runaway favourites for the competition, the Tampa Bay Lightning were dumped out in the opening round by the highly unfancied Columbus Blue Jackets.

This means that the brackets are now wide open, and every team left in believe they have a reasonable chance of winning the competition. However, the winner of the 2019 Stanley Cup could easily come from this fixture.

New York Islanders vs Carolina Hurricanes Series Preview

The Islanders were the last of all the teams remaining to learn of their second-round opponents, as the Hurricanes were involved in a thrilling seventh-game match up against the defending champions, the Washington Capitals. In the end, they overcame this test in overtime; proving that they could be real contenders this season.

The worry that Islanders fans’ had was regarding players rust after finishing off their opponents in emphatic fashion over a week ago; as they swept aside the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, it looks as if their rust will no longer be a concern, and they will be hoping to play on the fatigue that would without a doubt play a part on the Hurricanes in at least the first matchup.

Carolina will be thrilled that they will get a split of the first two games; meaning they will get the much-needed rest before the series moves. However, both teams will be wary of the prospect of matches on back to back nights in different cities.

New York will be hopeful after finishing the regular season with three wins, to the Hurricane’s one victory. However, all three of these came thanks to a brilliant performance from Thomas Greiss; who will start this series as a backup.

Furthermore, none of these wins came after January; adding further intrigue to the fixture. Regular season results hold little substance to the playoff series, just look at the results of the Lightning as evidence for that.

The Islanders are unbeaten in their last six fixtures; with their only recent defeat coming at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Canadian sides last home fixture of the regular season. Their most recent 3-1 win was a sign of just how comfortable they were in their opening round series.

Josh Bailey, Jordan Eberle, and Brock Nelson scored the goals for the Islanders. Meanwhile, Robin Lehner made 34 saves to end the series in sparkling form.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes battled back from being 2-0 in the first period, to knock out last years winner of the Stanley Cup. Goals from Brock McGinn, Sebastien Aho, Jordan Staal and Teuvo Teravainen saw that they ended the game as the deserved winners.

Petr Mrazek made 37 saves and played brilliantly in overtime and the third period to ensure that their playoff dreams remained intact.

New York Islanders vs Carolina Hurricanes Tip

This will be a thrilling matchup between two teams that could easily progress into the next round.

Both of these teams are at much shorter prices now than they were before the opening round, but the Islanders should have enough to get over the line after they have taken advantage of the fatigue in the Hurricanes ranks after the first games.
