Boston Bruins vs St. Louis Blues Preview
The two teams couldn’t be more contrasting. The Blues have spent significantly more time on the ice, while the Bruins have been effective in their business since scraping past the Toronto Maple Leafs in their opening round series.
In truth, that match was the closest that any team has got to beating the Bruins over seven games this season. Since then they have been mesmeric, and that was in full display during their comprehensive series whitewash over the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Bruins have been efficient in their business away from Boston, and there is a feeling that their name may already be on the Stanley Cup.
They have been so close more side than any other, with their 13 losses in the Stanley Cup series hung over their head by rivals time and time again. The last time they tasted victory was in the 2011 series as they won a seventh-game thriller against the Vancouver Cannucks.
Always the bridesmaid but never the bride is the ultimate tag that hangs over the Bruins, but the 2019 series is a chance to rectify that in some style.
In Brad Marchand and Tuukka Rask, they have quality at both ends of the ice. Marchand has scored seven goals and assisted eleven in the post-season, while Rask has been the saviour for the team on numerous occasions.
The Finnish keeper is ranked top of the rating for goaltenders by the GAA and has only been on the losing side on five occasions this season.
The Blues meanwhile have a star of their own in Jaden Schwartz. No player from either side can claim to have scored more goals this season that the St. Louis man; as he has scored 12 goals in 19 appearances.
Their keeper, Jordan Binnington also is in the top five goaltenders this season, having lost on only seven occasions this season while having a save percentage of .914.
St Louis has endured a challenging run to reach this stage after needing game six to see off the Winnipeg Jets and then a seventh game to see off the Dallas Stars. Their conference final was a thrilling encounter which averaged over six goals a game.
They cemented their place in the Stanley Cup with a 5-1 victory in game six of the series. The Blues have lost on all three of their previous appearances in the Stanley Cup; with their last outing ending in defeat to the Boston Bruins. Blues fans will be hoping that history doesn’t repeat itself.
Stanley Cup Predictions
History shows us that these two sides are better accustomed to defeat at this stage of the post-season; however, this year, one of them will finally get their moment in the sun.
The Blues have been leaking goals throughout the playoffs, whereas the Bruins have remained stiff. Therefore, it suggests that defence will prevail and Boston will be the Stanley Cup champions.
