Champions League Tips – Tottenham vs Manchester City

Burnley vs Manchester City tips

The Champions League quarter-finals kick off with one of the most attractive fixtures on paper. The all-English tie will undoubtedly catch the eye of the English fans, but the whole of Europe will be interested to see how City can deal with the vibrant, forward line that Spurs have.

We have a Tottenham vs Manchester Preview, Predictions & Soccer Betting Tips for the eagerly-awaited 2019 Champions League soccer game between two of the giants of the EPL.

Tottenham Form

Spurs have been going through a sticky patch in recent weeks and were saved by the international break, as their domestic form allowed the chasing pack to catch up with them; plunging their apparent top-four place in doubt. Tottenham haven’t won a game domestically since the Champions League resumed, and have lost three out of the four Premier League games that have been played since early February.

However, their European form has been in complete contrast to this. Spurs were handed the tricky assignment of Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund to advance in the Champions League. If this tie had been decided on paper, few bettors would have opted to back the faltering Tottenham against the free-flowing German side.

But, the English team’s performance at Wembley was a performance for the ages for the Spurs fans and will go down as one of their best results in recent memory. Harry Kane was missing for the first leg at Wembley, but it didn’t make much difference in the outcome, as Spurs produced a marvellous 3-0 first leg victory.

Son Heung-Min continued his fine form against Dortmund to score the opener, before Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente netted in the last ten minutes to provide Mauricio Pochettino’s side with a healthy advantage. They cemented their place in the quarter-finals with a defensive-masterclass in the second leg.

Harry Kane broke through to score the only goal of the game. Spurs will need to improve on their recent record against City should they have any chance of qualifying from the tie, but if European form is anything to go by; they still have a chance.

Manchester City Form

Manchester City are still fighting on three-fronts as they try to become the first team in Europe to win all four major trophies on offer. Pep Guardiola’s men have already won the League Cup, but on the ranking of prizes that they are hoping to win; that would have been at the bottom.

The Spanish manager knows that his tenure at the club will be judged on their European performances, and so far City are yet to make a dent in the Champions League. Last season’s defeat against Liverpool at this stage was a difficult game to measure their progression, but when that draw was made they would have been as happy with facing the Reds as they are now to be facing Spurs.

Guardiola often talks about remaining focused on the challenges ahead, and he will be hoping that they will have learnt from last season.

City’s ruthlessness was on full display in the last round; winning 7-0 in the second leg after a nervy first leg. This was the clubs biggest ever European win and left the remaining clubs in the competition keen to avoid the Manchester side.

The first leg at Wembley will be crucial in deciding the outcome of this tie, so City will be eager to gain an advantage at the national stadium.

Tottenham vs Man City Tips & Prediction

Tottenham’s record against Manchester City is weak; with their only win against the club coming in 2016. Pochettino is yet to beat Guardiola as a manager and has seen his Spurs side concede ten goals in four fixtures since the Spaniard has arrived in England.

Spurs will know that they will have to attack City in the first leg, which will open them up to the counter-attacking power that the Citizens have.

The Premier League-chasing sky blues will want this tie effectively over as soon as possible, and they will put one foot in the semi-finals by winning convincingly at Wembley.

Tip: Manchester City to win (-138) and over 2.5 goals.
