Norwich City vs. Newcastle United: EPL Predictions

Norwich City vs. Newcastle is set to be a terrific game this weekend and we have EPL Predictions available.

This already feels like a significant fixture even at this early stage of the Premier League season. Both Norwich and Newcastle are expected to be towards the lower end of the table come the end of the season, and both lost their opening match last weekend.

But, which side will come away from Carrow Road with the spoils?

In truth, Norwich and Newcastle’s matches both went the exact way that punters would have been hoping for last weekend.

Norwich were taught a lesson of the ruthlessness of the Premier League by Liverpool, while Newcastle made one mistake in a near faultless performance and were punished by Arsenal.

Norwich Form

Norwich quickly highlighted that their strength this season will be in attacking, as they caused numerous problems for the Champions League winners throughout their fixture. It was defensive mistakes that were the Achilles heel.

Four unanswered goals in the first half meant that the fixture was effectively put to bed, but Norwich registered more shots in that first half at Anfield than any other side managed the previous season.

They deserved a goal and eventually got it after smart link-up play between Emiliano Buendia and Teemu Pukki allowed the Finn to register his first-ever goal in the top-flight.

Norwich will certainly do well against the teams around them, but they will be hammered for their defensive inabilities by teams at the top end of the table.

Newcastle Form

Steve Bruce would have been pleased that the season finally got underway as the pressure was already mounting on his shoulders as the Newcastle manager. He was unable to get the perfect start after a clinical finish from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang mid-way through the second half.

The Toon did, however, pose an attacking threat throughout and hit the post in the first half through Jonjo Shelvey. Bruce would have also been happy with the transition to the Premier League of new record-signing Joelinton.

The link-up play between the Brazilian and Miguel Almiron looked promising, and this will be something that is bound to improve over the season.

Norwich vs. Newcastle head-to-head

Newcastle holds the clear advantage in the record between the sides having won on 24 occasions. There have also been 16 Norwich wins, and 16 draws in their past encounters.

However, this will be the first meeting between the sides in the Premier League since 2016, and on that occasion, Norwich ran out 3-2 winners in a thrilling game.

Norwich Team News

The Canaries have a host of injury concerns ahead of the first home game back in the Premier League, and they will be especially worried about the prolonged absences of experienced defenders Timm Klose and Christoph Zimmermann. Alexander Tettey also remains out.

Newcastle Team News

Jonjo Shelvey will miss out on the trip to Carrow Road after picking up a knock against Arsenal. The Toon will also be without Christian Atsu and DeAndre Yedlin.

Norwich vs. Newcastle EPL Predictions

Both of these teams will be hopeful of registering a first win for the season sooner rather than later. Neither of these sides can claim to have a solid backline, which means there could be a few goals in this game.

If the fixture does play out that way, then you would have to fancy Norwich to outscore Newcastle, and pour more misery of Steve Bruce as the pressure will undoubtedly rise with a second straight defeat.
