Wolverhampton Form

The big question mark that hangs over Wolverhampton Wanderers is their ability to combat playing twice a week after playing in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The first match-day did little to dispel those rumours of a drop in performance levels after they were held to a goalless draw at Leicester City. However, Nuno Espirito Santos’ side were unlucky not have come away with all three points after having a goal disallowed by VAR.

The incident that caused the controversy came after Leander Dendoncker smashed the ball past Kasper Schmeichel, only for VAR to disallow the goal after the ball struck Willy Boly’s hand in the build-up.

It was harsh, but by the rules of the game, it was a correct call. Wolves have ambitions of breaking into the top-six this season, and on Monday night we will see their credentials.

Manchester United Form

Manchester United enjoyed an excellent start to the season against Chelsea. A 4-0 success at Old Trafford was a welcome start, and the performances of the debutants would have undoubtedly pleased Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Harry Maguire was colossal in the defence and showed all the qualities as to why the Red Devils were only too happy to part ways with £80 million. The world-record signing produced more tackles, clearances and headers than anybody else on the pitch.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was also brilliant on his Premier League bow for United and looked to have solved a problem area for the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, Daniel James, who was also making his debut, capped his first appearance with an emotional goal in front of the Stretford End. Marcus Rashford also scored a brace in the opening day win. Anthony Martial also celebrated the return to his number nine shirt with a goal.

However, Wolves will present a different challenge for United, as the Red Devils won’t be able to utilise their counter-attacking play against a defence-minded Wolves side.

We will learn more about United during Monday’s game.

Wolverhampton vs. Manchester United head-to-head

Manchester United dominates the overall record having won on 48 occasions compared to Wolves’ 36 wins.

There have also been 17 draws. United, however, don’t have the best record at Molineux, as Wolves are one of only four teams that they have lost more games than they have won away from home.

Wolves won twice against United at home last season; once in the Premier League and once in the FA Cup.

Wolves Team News

Nuno Espirito Santo will have a fully fit squad to choose from on Monday evening.

Manchester United Team News

Alexis Sanchez returned to full training this week, but it’s unlucky that he will play a part in the West Midlands. Eric Bailly remains on the sidelines for an extended period.

Wolverhampton vs. Manchester United EPL Predictions

Manchester United will be looking for a second consecutive win to start the season, and the form of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford means that they should take the spoils.

Furthermore, United haven’t lost their first away games of consecutive seasons since the early 80s, and it’s difficult to see that run ending this season.

United will edge it, but Wolves will make them work hard for it.
