UFC 240 Fight Preview – Holloway vs. Edgar
There’s a 10-year difference between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar, so we’re expecting to see that come out at UFC 240.
Holloway, the younger fighter at age 27, comes into this fight as the UFC Featherweight Champion after being defeated by Dustin Poirier when he stepped up to the Lightweight division on April 14.
The five-round decision loss kept the Lightweight belt out of reach but Holloway will be focused on retaining his Featherweight title against Frankie Edgar for the meantime.
His most recent fight in this division came on December 9, 2018, when he scored a fourth-round TKO against former unbeaten star Brian Ortega. Both fighters scored high praise for that fight and it established Holloway as one of the best featherweight fighters of all time.
Standing in his way at UFC 240 is Frankie Edgar – the vastly experienced former champion who hasn’t fought since beating Cub Swanson at Fight Night 128 in April, 2018.
The lack of recent Octagon experience is going to play against Edgar, but he’s not one to shy away from a tough fight. He’s a 23-fight winner for a reason and it would be foolish to rule him out.
UFC 240 Predictions – Holloway vs. Edgar
Bookmakers have Max Holloway as the –450 ($1.22) favorite and although those odds are short, it’s tough to bet against Max Holloway in this situation.
Holloway is in peak condition for this fight and given that he has already fought in 2019, he already has the fitness edge over Edgar.
However, we can’t fully discredit the chances of Frankie Edgar. We have already seen Uriah Faber come back as a 40-year-old and come back with a bang. Edgar should derive good benefit from seeing that and take confidence into this fight.
That being said, we’re in the camp of Max Holloway and we’ll take the –450 @ Bovada.
UFC 240 Fight Preview – Cyborg vs. Spencer
This should be an interesting fight between one of the UFC’s stalwart female athletes and a rising star in the division.
Cris Cyborg has had a controversial time in the UFC but she brings in a decided experience edge over her opponent here. With a record of 20-2-0 (1NC), Cyborg makes her 2019 debut having suffered a shocking loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232.
It was a devastating loss for Cyborg but as we’ve seen since, Nunes is the testing ground for women’s UFC, so the loss was better than it looked at the time.
For Felicia Spencer, fighting in front of her home crowd will give her the momentum she needs to cause an upset. With only seven wins and no losses on her record, Spencer is facing a massive rise in class having beaten Megan Anderson (9-4) at Fight Night 152.
In fact, Spencer hasn’t fought anyone close to the ability of Cyborg and that makes this a dangerous fight for the unbeaten fighter.
UFC 240 Predictions – Cyborg vs. Spencer
It would make a good story to see Felicia Spencer cause an upset over Cris Cyborg, but we simply can’t see it happening.
There’s a distinct class advantage with Cyborg and although it’s fun to go with the undefeated fighter in most situations, this isn’t one of them.
This could be the quickest fight on the UFC 240 card and it should go in favor of Cris Cyborg. She’s the –580 ($1.17) favorite at Bovada and most of the money is with her.
UFC 240 Fight Preview & Predictions – Neal vs. Price
There is little separating these two fighters in the Tale of the tape. Niko Price has the reach advantage of 2.5cm and the height advantage.
However, Price is the underdog for this fight as Geoff Neal (11-2) brings some good power and recent wins over some solid fighters. He scored a three-round decision win over Belal Muhammad at Fight Night 143 and a more decisive KO win over Frank Camacho at UFC 228.
Niko Price also has a good record of 13-2-0 (1NC) after beating up on Tim Means at Fight Night 146. The KO victory came in the first round and the Florida native could continue his fine form at UFC 240.
Bookmakers have Neal as the –350 ($1.27) favorite as yet another well-backed fighter on the UFC 240 card. However, we see value in betting on Price at +265 @ Bovada. There’s good value in taking the risk on the 29-year-old.
UFC 240 Fight Preview & Predictions – Aubin-Mercier vs. Tsarukyan
Arman Tsarukyan (13-2) comes into this fight having lost to Islam Makhachev at Fight Night 149 but the Russian fighter has plenty of upside.
He’s the –200 ($1.50) favorite for this fight against Oliver Aubin-Mercier, despite the fight being held in Canada.
Oliver Aubin-Mercier is the elder at 30 years of age and the “Canadian Gangster” is looking to bounce back after back-to-back defeats. His most recent loss came to Gilbert Burns at UFC 231. Both his last two fights have been lost on points.
He is a fighter with plenty of ability but doesn’t always produce his best effort. He could score the upset here but Arman Tsarukyan looks hungry to turn around his own defeat and get back to an interview with Joe Rogan following the fight.
Take Arman Tsarukyan –200 @ Bovada.
