2020 Kentucky Derby Best Bet – Improbable

It looked improbable that Improbable would start the 2019 Kentucky Derby as the +450 favorite. The withdrawal of Omaha Beach has thrown this market wide open.

Trainer Bob Baffert looks to have a mortgage with his 2019 Kentucky Derby Tips, which includes three-year-old colt Improbable.

The son of Kentucky doesn’t bring in an unbeaten record like many past Kentucky Derby champions have boasted, but he’s an experienced runner. He won his first three starts, including the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Futurity before running two solid placings.

Running second behind Omaha Beach in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby is good form going forward and he should strengthen up nicely from that run.

Bob Baffert was remaining coy about his three top-level chances this week.

“I think anyone could win it,” Baffert told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “You have to get the trip, and the post is most important.”

Improbable received an ideal post of five and that’s going to make him tough to beat come Saturday afternoon.

2020 Kentucky Derby Value Pick – Game Winner

Game Winner is a fellow Bob Baffert-trained colt which has similar form to stablemate Improbable.

He was a winner of his first four starts and that included consecutive Grade 1 races. Those wins came in the Grade 1 American Pharoah Stakes and the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.

Game Winner has been beaten in two starts since but they came behind Omaha Beach and Roadster. We will tell you why we prefer Game Winner over Roadster later in this article, but Game Winner represents value.

He’s a +550 pick at BetOnline and many 2019 Kentucky Derby Tips have Game Winner near the top of selections.

If he can find a length or two following his defeat in the Santa Anita Derby, he’s going to go awfully close to giving Baffert another Derby win.

Why we can’t tip Roadster

Roadster is a classy animal by his own right, but getting post 17 was an unfortunate result for connections.

He’s going to need to do a stack of work from out wide and winning the Kentucky Derby from out there hasn’t been easy in the past. No horse has ever won from 17 and we don’t think Roadster is good enough to buck that trend.
