We have Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr Predictions & Preview for the upcoming undisputed heavyweight championship.
The much anticipated American debut for the most decorated heavyweight boxer in the world is finally here, and Anthony Joshua has a lot to live up to. He will face off against Andy Ruiz Jr at Madison Square Garden, after his previous scheduled opponent Darrell Miller was pulled out due to a failed drugs test.
However, the Brit will need to put on a show after heavyweight rivals Deontay Wilder, and Tyson Fury have both put down a marker over the past 12 months.
Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr Preview
Anthony Joshua’s debut in the USA has been teased for years, but he will finally make his long-awaited bow in front of a sold out Madison Square Garden in New York.
The initial announcement broke the record for the most amount of pre-event boxing sales of all-time. The momentum was lost somewhat when the news broke that Miller had failed a drugs test.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn was adamant that a new opponent of similar standard will be found. There were names such as Dillian Whyte, and Joseph Parker being touted, but eventually, Ruiz was named. This was greeted with disappointment from fans as a possible all-British bout with Whyte and a rematch with Parker; who remains the only man to have taken Joshua to a decision both regarded as bigger names.
Hearn’s decision to keep Joshua away from rivals such as Wilder, Fury and Luis Ortiz means that the Brit must win efficiently against Ruiz; and the possibility of AJ adding to his 21 KO’s looks likely.
But make no mistake about it, Ruiz does present a challenge that Joshua must not take lightly. The Mexican has won 32 of his 33 bouts and comes into the fight having won his last three.
However, the question marks over the challenger’s that he has beaten means that he doesn’t offer a credible chance; and that is reflected in the odds for the fight. The one high calibre talent that Ruiz has faced off against was Joseph Parker; the man that went 12 rounds with Joshua.
That fight is an excellent example of the difference between the calibres of boxers, as Parker dominated from start to finish and could have ended the fight whenever he liked. In the end, the fight went to a decision, and Parker won by a majority.
The 29-year-old may not be deserving of a chance to win the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles, but make no mistake about it; this will be a challenge he will be hoping to take advantage of. However, Joshua is unlike any opponent that he has faced to date, and the question of whether he can step up to one of the best in the world is doubtful given his track record.
Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr Predictions
While Ruiz’s record is impressive, the calibre of boxers that he has fought is sorely lacking. The loss to Parker is a sign that he won’t be able to compete with Joshua, and this fight could be over fairly quickly.
Joshua would have had to watch other heavyweights question his talents for months now, and he will be able to answer all those questions with a brutal knockout in New York.
