UFC 236 Preview & Betting Tips

UFC 236 tips

UFC #236 is one of the best fight cards in 2019 with Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier fighting for the title.

Atlanta will be the stage for the potential end to one of the most exciting rivalries in UFC history on Saturday evening. It will be the rematch between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier for the UFC Interim Lightweight Championship.

There is also an intriguing undercard with exciting matchups, for a night which will be sure to keep MMA fans on the edge of their seats.

Max Holloway vs Dustin Poirier Preview

UFC fans have been looking forward to this matchup for nearly three months now, after the main event in Atlanta was announced back in February.

It will be the first time that we will get to see Holloway enter the Octagon as a lightweight; after dominating the featherweight division for the past five years.

It is likely to be an enthralling occasion as the talent of the fighters and the impressive KO rate that both posses will mean anything can happen.

Holloway had nothing else to prove in the lower weight division, as he had beaten the best in that division twice. He beat Jose Aldo twice via TKO last year, before rounding off the year with another win against Brian Ortega.

His last defeat came six years ago again the notorious Conor McGregor; however, a win here could potentially set up a rematch between the pair after the Irishman has teased a last UFC bout.

The only other big disappointment that he can atone for is the defeat he suffered to his opponent on Saturday in 2012.

Poirier will enter the fight with an excellent recent record. He has won his last three; with two of those victories coming via TKO. He has beaten some excellent fighters over this recent run in the form of Eddie Alvarez, Justin Gaethje, and Anthony Pettis.

The fight against Alvarez was a fitting occasion for the 30-year-old as they had met a year prior, but the fight was declared a non-contest after Alvarez hit Poirier with an illegal elbow.

Much like Holloway, the one big blotch on his record is a defeat against McGregor, and he will have one eye on a potential rematch should he beat Holloway for the second time in his UFC career.

Max Holloway vs Dustin Poirier Tips

It will be difficult for Poirier to replicate that win from 2012, with Holloway unbeaten since 2013 and looks to be a cut above the rest. The only question mark will be how he transitions into the new weight class; but it shouldn’t be an issue for Holloway, as his quality will come through in the end.

Holloway’s winning streak has lasted for 13 fights now and the fact that he has won the performance or fight of the night accolade in three of his last four bouts means that this is likely to be an unbelievable fight.

The current featherweight champion’s record of winning his last four via TKO also points to how he might try and end this fight.

Tip: Max Holloway to win via KO/TKO
